Will organize Maharashtra-like farmer’s rally in Jharkhand, says Brinda Karat

Ranchi: CPI (M) politburo member Brinda Karat on March 14 said her party will take up the cause of farmers of Jharkhand by a mega farmers’ rally and Kisan Sabha like the one held in Maharashtra.
Karat, who was in Ranchi to attend a meeting of the party’s Jharkhand committee, criticized the ruling BJP and opposition parties for not standing by the farmers of Jharkhand.
“The Maharashtra government had to bow down before the farmers after the historic rally. We are trying to do that here too. Instead of counting seats and making alliances, the opposition parties must stand by them,” she said at the party’s state headquarters in Ranchi at noon.
Karat, a former Rajya Sabha member and the party’s state-in-charge, had visited Chainpur block in Gumla on March 13. She alleged that Jharkhand government was trying to acquire 4 lakh acre land and displace 300 villages for a proposed tiger project, an elephant corridor project, the revival of Netarhat field firing range and proposed bauxite mining projects. “We will resist these efforts till the end,” she added.
Karat said her party had not decided about the future of a coalition before the 2019 Parliamentary polls in Jharkhand. “Our focus is to dislodge the BJP from power. The decision on pre-poll alliances will be taken after a meeting of all left parties,” she added.
