UP girl develops ‘Rape-Proof’ underwear with a lock, GPS & camera because men won’t stop raping

Lucknow, UP: Just 10 days into the new year and we’ve read and heard about more than double the number of rapes and molestations across the country. When will rape stop? When will rapists realize that our bodies are not their property – which they can use and throw at their disposal? When will the government make stricter laws to punish these attackers with the severest of punishments?
Women live in the hope of seeing that historical day when all these questions will be answered. But for now, they are mostly on their own, trying to learn every lesson in self-defense and to speak up against the perpetrators without any shame.
The prototype has been developed by Seenu Kumari, a resident of Uttar Pradesh – a state where rapes are rampant – who claims that the underwear is both knife-proof and bullet-proof, and comes with an emergency call button and a combination lock, reports, Daily Mail.
The girl hopes that her invention would one day find a wider market. She also claims that the installed GPS technology will alert both family members and the police of a possible attack. The video camera will record the attacker’s face and store the identity of the rapist.
Seenu Kumari also said that a woman need not wear this underwear at all times – only when they are travelling alone.
The prototype has now been sent to the National Innovation Foundation in Allahabad for patent approval.
The very fact that such an invention is needed at all, speaks volumes of society we live in. Her invention and effort are laudable and it is encouraging to see a woman find such a sophisticated solution to the problem of rape. But, rape – or any kind of violence against women – will not stop until our laws are stricter, punishments severer and conscience more awake.
