New Delhi:
Taking both doses of vaccines provide at least 98 per cent protection from Covid-19 death, said NITI Aayog member VK Paul on Friday, citing a study done by the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh in association with the Punjab government.
“We find that one dose offers 92% protection from death while both doses offer a protection of 98 per cent,” Paul said, adding that the study was done on police personnel as they belong to the high-risk group.
India has vaccinated over 34 crore people as part of the nationwide vaccination drive that began on January 16. A push was given to the drive on June 21 when it entered its third phase.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 34,00,76,232 vaccine doses have been administered.
India on Friday recorded 46,617 fresh cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19), registering less than 50,000 infections for five consecutive days, data from the Union health ministry showed.
The fresh Covid-19 cases have taken India’s cumulative tally of infections to 30,458,251.
Active cases of Covid-19 in the country continued to decline and were logged at 509,637 on Friday.
The Weekly Positivity Rate remains below 5%, currently at 2.57%. Meanwhile, the daily positivity rate stands at 2.48%, less than 5% for 25 consecutive days.
