Suneet Varma closes LFW with disco era 'Night Fever' collection

Veteren designer, Suneet Varma closed the 10th Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) 2010 with his disco inspired ‘Night Fever’ collection here.

The Delhi-based designer yesterday presented his ”blast from the past” line of collection including silk georgette net and organza of late 70s and silhouettes with sequin sheeting of 80s and applique minus the block heels. However, afro, though colourful and sexy as the era itself, with added class and panache, was loud.

Sticking strictly to the theme, Varma’s spectacle included mirror balls, resort shack, confetti glitter and remix Donna Summers, Bee Gees (Saturday Night Fever OST) and disco tracks from Medival Pundits, topped with the models showing some deft disco dance moves with Varma.

Speaking post show, Varma said ”The Grand Finale has been sombre and serious for the last few seasons, and my collection with the ‘Night Fever’ theme is a break from that. I have basically incorporated the 70s and 80s disco look with the Indian sensibility. I imagined Bollywood icons Zeenat Aman and Parveen Babi in my dresses and dancing to some disco numbers.” The collection was created to capture the imagination and attention of the audience and take them on a journey. Its important that the show had a point of view whether its experimentation, theatrical or cutting edge, said the designer who also designed the outfits for the much-hyped Hrithik Roshan-starrer ‘Kites’.

”You’ve got to have passion to enter the fashion industry.

If you enter (the industry) either for money or fame, you won’t last,” added the designer who has been in the forefront of industry for the last 23 years.
