Somdev Devvarman Crashes Out Of ATP Farmers Classic

Indian tennis player Somdev Devvarman crashed out of the ATP Farmers Classic after he was defeated by Serbia’s Janko Tipsaveric 6-7 (9), 2-6 in the second round.

This is the second successive defeat for this young Indian tennis star, who is yet to get past the 46th ranked Serbian.

Earlier, 103rd ranked Somdev had lost to Tipsaveric at Chennai Open in the pre-quarterfinals.

However, Somdev collected a total of 32 points including 20 points by making the second round of this $619,500 hard court event. He is now within the top-100 range for the first time in his career.

Leander Paes was the other Indian to feature in singles top-100 in 1999.

The recent performance will help Somdev to get a direct entry into men’s singles main draw of the US Open.

Meanwhile, Indo-Pak pair of Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi have advanced to doubles quarterfinals of ATP Farmers Classic after beating British pair of Colin Fleming and Ken Skupski 6-7(3), 6-0.
