Chennai: S. Sarath Kumar is embarking on a trailblazing journey. When the 19-year-old makes his MotoGP debut in Qatar this weekend (March 18-20), the Chennai youngster will become the first Indian to take a plunge into the pinnacle of motorcycle racing.
With cutting-edge technology fielded by four manufacturers (Ducati, Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki), MotoGP is the premier bike race, and has been for the past 62 years.
The eighteen-round series has three categories — MotoGP (800cc), Moto2 (600cc) and 125cc. Sarath will compete in the entry level 125cc class and ride the prototype Aprilia RSW, representing WTR-Ten10 Racing which is a joint-venture of a technical team from San Marino and racing enthusiasts from Bengaluru.
