Records shattered by ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’

Chennai: SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ is extending its reign at the box-office with every passing day, since its release on April 28. With a phenomenal response it has received at the ticket window and by the fans, this Prabhas-Rana Daggubati starrer has been labeled as “Indian Cinema’s Pride” by the Superstar himself – Rajinikanth.
While the first part, ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’, released in July 2015 and minted over Rs 600 crore at the box office, ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ has zoomed past the Rs 500 crore mark at the worldwide box-office within just three days of its release. Here’s a list of records the film broke so far:
This highly anticipated sequel of the ‘Baahubali’ franchise opened across as many as 9000 screens worldwide, thus becoming the first film to have such a wide release. The last film to have such a big release was the Aamir Khan starrer ‘Dangal’, which released across 6000 screens worldwide. In India itself, ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ makers had reportedly booked around 6500 screens.
With the High Court allowing screening of benefit shows for ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’, ticket prices for the sequel reportedly soared to a whopping Rs 3,500 – Rs 4,000, an unprecedented amount for a single ticket. In Hyderabad, Warangal, Karimnagar, Mahbubnagar and other parts of Telangana, the excitement was palpable with fans queueing up outside theatres despite the scorching heat.
‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ crossed the Rs 100 crore mark at the Indian box-office on the first day of its release. Trade analyst claimed that this was by far, the best ever opening for an Indian film. The multi-lingual film collected an estimated Rs 122.03 crore net (cumulative figure of all languages) and became the first film to collect Rs 40.75 crore from the Hindi market, according to reports on Boxofficeindia.com.
While the never-seen-before VFX and cinematography drew the audience to theatres in large numbers, it was also the haunting question ‘Why Kattappa killed Baahubali?’ that made this film a rage among fans of the franchise. ‘Baahubali 2’ which was dubbed in Hindi apart from Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam languages, garnered as much as 127.5 crore nett (from the Hindi market) during its first weekend, according to a report on BoxofficeIndia.com.
‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ amassed a whopping Rs 506 crore worldwide (cumulative figure of all languages) over the opening weekend. Not just that, if we include the collections amassed from preview shows, then the worldwide collection of the film goes up to Rs 520 crore within the opening weekend. The film is leaving no stone unturned to leave behind an unmatchable legacy.
