Jaipur, April 14 (IANS) Looking at the alarming surge in the number of Covid-19 cases in the state in the past few days, the Rajasthan government on Wednesday announced to impose night curfew in all the cities between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. from April 16-30. All markets, work places and commercial complexes shall remain closed during the night curfew. The markets and commercial centres have been directed to close by 5 p.m. so that people can reach their houses by 6 p.m. All government offices shall remain open till 4 p.m. However, factories, IT companies and chemist shops shall remain open. All coaching centres and libraries shall remain closed during the night curfew, but schools will be permitted to conduct practical exams for Class X and Class XII students. On Wednesday, Rajasthan reported a record single-day spike of 6,200 new cases, while 29 people succumbed to the virus in the past 24 hours. Jaipur reported the highest of cases on Wednesday at 1,325. The state presently has 44,905 active cases. Delhi on Wednesday recorded a new high daily Covid tally of 17,282, as well as 104 deaths, while the number of active cases crossed the 50,000-mark to reach 50,736, according to the government's health bulletin. In Kerala, 8,778 people tested Covid positive from 65,258 samples sent for testing in the past 24 hours. There were also 22 fresh deaths, taking the death toll to 4,836. Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday reported 4,157 new Covid-19 cases, taking the tally to over 9.37 lakh, while active cases reached 28,383. Maharashtra has reported 58,952 fresh Covid-19 cases today. The state has recorded 278 deaths in the last 24 hrs as well. The total cases have now reached 35,78,160. Out of the total, 6,12,070 are active cases. Gujarat has reported 7,410 new Covid-19 cases which is the highest-ever that has been reported in the state in a day. The deaths caused by the coronavirus has also reached a new peak with 73 recorded in 24 hrs. India on Wednesday witnessed another highest single day spike in its daily tally of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) after 184,372 new cases were recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the Union health ministry's dashboard.
