Gandhinagar, Feb 22 (IANS): The newly formed 'Namaste Trump Nagrik Abhivadan Samiti' on Saturday held a closed door meeting at the Circuit House in Ahmedabad regarding the 'Namaste Trump' event to be held at the Motera stadium on Monday. Ahmedabad Mayor Bijal Patel has been appointed the chairperson of the eight-member committee which is responsible for organizing the mega event. However, sources said that till Patel was made the chairperson, she herself was not aware about the existence of any such committee. Gujarat University Vice Chancellor Himanshu Pandya, Ahmedabad BJP MPs Kirit Solanki and Hasmukh Patel, Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) head Durgesh Buch, folk singer Bhikhudan Gadhvi, Gujarat Technical University Vice Chancellor Nalin Seth and an architect B.V. Doshi are the other members of the committee. Initially, the 'Namaste Trump' event was announced as a government programme and the government machinery was being used for its operation. But suddenly on Thursday, the External Affairs Ministry announced that the event was being organised by the 'Namaste Trump Nagrik Abhivadan Samiti'. After being named the chairperson of the committee, Patel has gone incommunicado and her cellphone has been switched off. Sources said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar are likely to attend the 'Namaste Trump' event at the Motera stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday. A couple of other Union Ministers are also expected at the event, being organised to welcome US President Donald Trump on his first visit to India. "All Gujarat Cabinet ranked Ministers have been given two platinum passes for the event. They have also been given 10 gold passes to invite the influential persons of their choice to the event. The Ministers have been asked to stay at their residences in Gandhinagar. By 11 a.m. they will be taken to the stadium in special vehicles, vetted by the security apparatus," said a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader. Similarly, all BJP legislators had been asked to stay at the MLA quarters, from where they would be taken to the event in a special bus at 10 a.m, the leader added Leader of the opposition in Gujarat Assembly Paresh Dhanani has been invited to the ceremony. However, according to sources, Dhanani is unlikely to attend as he is expected to be out of the town.
