Washington DC: Utsav Sanduja, founder and chairman of Hindus for America First PAC, highlighted the growing support for U.S. President-elect Donald Trump within the Indian American community, noting a significant increase from 22% in 2020 to 31% in 2024. Speaking during the Presidential Inauguration Hindu Gala hosted by the American Hindu Coalition (AHC), Sanduja discussed his group's efforts to rally support across key battleground states during Trump's presidential campaign.

The gala, held at The Mayflower Hotel in Washington D.C. on January 19, marked a historic occasion as the first event of its kind focused on Hinduism in the context of U.S. politics. Sanduja shared his appreciation for Trump’s attention to the issues faced by Hindus, particularly in Bangladesh. He expressed confidence that Trump would take concrete steps to address these concerns, citing his ongoing briefings with the president’s team.

“We worked in all seven battleground states and saw a notable increase in support from the Indian American community, from 22% in 2020 to 31% in 2024. President Trump is deeply concerned about the welfare of Hindus in Bangladesh, and I’m optimistic he will act on this issue,” Sanduja stated. He emphasized that this rising support was not just a reflection of the Hindu community’s growing influence, but also of a larger unity across diverse groups rallying behind Trump’s vision for America.

One of the most striking aspects of the event was the broad coalition of support from various communities. Sanduja remarked on the unity demonstrated by people from different religious, racial, and cultural backgrounds, all coming together in their shared commitment to a better future for America. He noted that this diverse coalition was indicative of Trump’s ability to unite Americans of all walks of life, united in their concern for the nation’s welfare and in their desire for positive change.

At the gala, attendees from the Latino community also expressed their solidarity, further underscoring the cross-cultural and inter-community support for Trump. One Latino attendee proclaimed, “All I have to say is we have got to take America back again, and Trump did it.” This sentiment echoed the broader enthusiasm among attendees who viewed Trump as a figure capable of leading the country toward greater prosperity and unity.

The event itself represented not only a celebration of cultural diversity but also a moment of political solidarity. The AHC, a key organizer of the event, expressed its commitment to promoting Hindu values in the public sphere and fostering unity among various communities in the U.S. While the focus of the evening was on the support for Trump, it also reflected a broader, more inclusive vision for the country, one where all Americans could come together for the common good.

As Donald Trump prepared for his 2nd term as the 47th President of the United States, the Hindu Gala served as a reminder of the growing political engagement of immigrant communities in U.S. politics. With Trump’s swearing-in ceremony scheduled for the following day at the U.S. Capitol, the event was a powerful symbol of the increasing influence of Indian Americans and other ethnic groups in shaping the future of American politics.
