New Delhi: A Delhi court will deliver its order on November 29  on whether to take cognisance of the Enforcement Directorate’s chargesheet in the National Herald money laundering case. The case names Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Sam Pitroda, Suman Dubey and others as accused under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

Special Judge Vishal Gogne reserved the order on November 7 after the ED provided additional clarifications during the court’s inspection of the case files. The court had earlier deferred its decision, saying it needed more scrutiny of documents, alleged rent receipts and fund flow details before deciding if the chargesheet met the legal requirements for cognisance.

According to the ED, senior Congress leaders conspired to gain control of assets worth over Rs 2,000 crore belonging to Associated Journals Ltd, the publisher of the National Herald, by paying only Rs 50 lakh. The agency claims Young Indian — in which Sonia and Rahul Gandhi hold a majority stake — was created to acquire AJL’s assets for the personal benefit of top Congress leadership. It has also alleged fake transactions and fraudulent rent payments issued on their instructions.

The case first drew attention in 2012 after BJP leader Subramanian Swamy filed a complaint accusing Congress leaders of cheating and breach of trust.
