Amit Shah, National President of BJP: It is our great privilege that 1st time BJP had an opportunity to nominate a President on its own, a member of Dalit community was chosen.
Rahul Gandhi, Vice President of Congress: Congratulations Ram Nath Kovindji. Wishing you a great term as President of India.
Meira Kumar, Former Lok Sabha Speaker: My best wishes are with Sh. Kovindji as it has fallen upon him to uphold the Constitution in letter & spirit in these challenging times.
Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of WB: Congratulations to Ram Nath Kovind Ji, who will be our next President.
Raman Singh, Chief Minister of Chhattisgrah: Congratulate Kovind Ji, his nomination for President post was a sign that govt. is determined to bring Dalits in mainstream.
BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha: Being a loyalist and a disciplined party soldier, I certainly appreciate and abide by the #BJP party parliamentary board’s decision of finally nominating Mr. Ram Nath Kovind, #RamNathKovind, Hon. Governor of Bihar, as the NDA presidential candidate… Highly appreciate this decision and congratulate the senior, learned, seasoned politician & perfect gentleman Mr. #RamNathKovind .. However we have certain reservations about the decision, however right & timely it may be. I wish the matter was dealt with or handled in a more mature & transparent manner. We could have nipped the bud right in the beginning in an open & shut, transparent manner without going into the “Ringa Ringa Roses” of so called discussions & consultations with one and all parties.. Nonetheless, long live our friend, philosopher, guide, guru & ultimate leader Honourable Mr. L.K.Advani. Long live #BJP Jai Hind.
CPI National Secretary D. Raja joined Yechury in congratulating the two and said Kovind should now act as a custodian of the Constitution. He observed the race to Raisina Hill was a “very dignified one”, notwithstanding the different political and ideological lines followed by the NDA and the opposition.
CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury said on Twitter that the Opposition’s fight for a “plural and equitable” India will continue. “Congratulations to Shri Ram Nath Kovind. Our fight for a plural, harmonious, equitable and just India continues. “Congratulations to Smt Meira Kumar for a spirited fight. @meira_kumar,” he said on the micro-blogging site.
