Panneerselvam faction moves Supreme Court against trust vote proceedings

Chennai: The AIADMK faction led by former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam has moved the Supreme Court against the confidence motion proceedings in the State Assembly alleging several violations and further sought to declare null and void the confidence motion won by the Edappadi K. Palaniswamy government, AIADMK MLA K. Pandiarajan said in Chennai on March 10.

Speaking to reporters in Chennai, Pandiarajan said that the plea in the apex court has pointed out several violations including confining MLAs in Koovathur and the Speaker not accepting the secret ballot option despite having powers, among others.

He said a total of 26 grounds have been cited in the plea and the best of advocates in the country have filed the plea in the Supreme Court. “We have raised the way in which the confidence vote was held in the Assembly, the reason why the Speaker didn’t go for secret voting despite having powers under Rule 286, how written communication to the Governor that MLAs would be released soon after swearing-in was not honored, are been raised in the plea,” Mr. Pandiarajan said and hoped that justice would be in their favor.

Replying to a query on the candidate for the April 12, 2017 bypoll in Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar Assembly constituency, Pandiarajan said senior party functionaries are consulting over the issue and a press meet would be held on Sunday morning over the same.

When asked about AIADMK leader T.T.V. Dinakaran constituting an administrative panel of the party, Pandiarajan pointed out, “Even the Election Commission has not recognised him as the Deputy General Secretary of the party.” Pandiarajan further asserted that the faction led by Panneerselvam and E. Madhusudhanan was the true AIADMK.
