New Delhi:
Soon you may see some of the public toilet complexes named after NRIs in cities and towns.
In its bid to encourage NRIs for their contribution to Swachh Bharat initiatives, the urban development ministry has informed the external affairs ministry that public toilet complexes can be named after any such person who contributes at least 60% of the funds required for the facility.
At present, the Centre provides assistance up to 40% of the fund required for building a public toilet in cities and towns. As per the laid down standards, there should be one public toilet at every 500 meters.
So far 1.29 lakh public toilets have been built since the Swachh Bharat initiative was launched in October 2014.
