NASA Reveals Its First Lunar Rover iPhone Game

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) revealed its first iPhone game, which will allow you to drive a fictional Lunar Electric Rover on a future lunar post. You can get this game from the iTunes store for free.

This game is categorized under the educational iPhone apps, making it perfect for those space nuts and science junkies. NASA has recently started developing applications and games that will fit the new media, and this latest development is a cast-off from NASA’s video podcast show called the NASA Edge.

We wanted to make this a cool game instead of an app where you just retrieve information,” said Chris Giersch, the host of NASA Edge, said.

The game, which was developed by Analytical Mechanics Association at the NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton in Virginia, is simple enough. According to one game website, the gameplay is a bit “Pacmanish.” Aside from driving around with the rover, you can also see images from the proposed lunar post and learn what life on the Moon is like.

“We thought about going high-tech and going really jazzy, but for this first version, let’s just keep it basic,” Giersch said.

The Lunar Electric Rover used in the game is based on a prototype tested at the Black Point Lava Flow in Arizona. It would be part of the old NASA Constellation solar system exploration plan.
