Bhopal, June 27 (IANS) During his two-hour long interaction with the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) booth workers in Bhopal on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi predominantly touched upon five issues — UCC, triple talaq, corruption, caste discrimination and nepotism in politics.

Modi, who was addressing his first public meeting after his visit to the United States and Egypt,  emphasised on the need for a  Uniform Civil Code (UCC). He batted for the UCC saying that it was envisioned in the Constitution and the Supreme Court has also asked for it to be implemented.

The Prime Minister said that the issue of the UCC is being used to mislead and provoke the Muslim community. “People are being instigated in the name of UCC. How can the country run on two (laws)? The Constitution also talks of equal rights. Those seeking votes in the name of social justice have done maximum injustice to the villages and the poor,” he said.

On the triple talaq issue, Modi said those opposing the triple talaq Bill enacted by the his government are against the empowerment of Muslim women. He pointed out that had triple talaq been an inseparable tenet of Islam, the Muslim nations would not have banned this draconian practice.

“Some of the Muslim populated countries enacted a law to impose a ban on triple talaq years back. Islamic countries like Pakistan, Indonesia, Bangladesh and several others have also banned triple talaq. The people who want to make the Muslim women slaves, only they are opposing the BJP government’s move against triple talaq. Muslim women understand it very well, which why they thank me wherever I go,” the PM added.

The Prime Minister also hit out at the Opposition accusing them of indulging in corruption. Responding to a party worker’s query, he mocked the grand Opposition unity meet in Patna last week as a “photo op”, saying the parties that participated were a “guarantee of scams worth Rs 20 lakh crore”.

He said for the last few days a new word is being heard, that is “guarantee”. He added that this “guarantee” is of the corruption of the Opposition parties. “All these parties are a guarantee of corruption and scams worth crores. A few days ago, a ‘photo op’ was organised by them (Opposition). All those seen in the photo are a guarantee of a scam worth Rs 20 lakh crore. The Congress alone is involved in scams worth lakhs of crores,โ€ Modi said.

It was the first time that Modi spoke on the Opposition meeting held in Patna on June 23. He added, “I am also giving one guarantee that all who have looted public money will be sent to jail. They (Oppostion) are fearful of jail, which is why they are getting united. Some of them have come out of jail and they are sharing their experiences.”

Modi spoke about caste discrimination saying the political parties have created a huge gap within the society. Several castes were left deprived of even the basic amenities for their lives. He named several castes in the southern part of the country claiming the political parties never worked for them. He also spoke about the Pasmanda Muslims saying that the community wasn’t paid attention.

Modi spoke about “parivarvad” in politics aggressively and asked the people to support the BJP to ensure the future for their next generation. He hit out at all those families that have a strong domination over the politics of India – the Congress (Gandhi family), Samaajwadi Party (Mulayam Singh family), DMK (Karunanidhi), BRS (K. Chandrashekar Rao), RJD ( Lalu Yadav), NCP (Sharad Pawar) etc.
