JD-U MLC’s ‘Karbala’ remarks rile BJP leaders who claim insult to Hindu community

Patna, Jan 21 (IANS) In wake of the “Karbala” remarks made by former JD-U MLC Gulam Rasool Balyawi, Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Friday targeted Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, terming him responsible for insulting the Hindu community.
“Due to the support of Nitish Kumar, his ministers and leaders are abusing and insulting the people of Hindu community. He is a helpless Chief Minister of Bihar. They cannot test our tolerance level. The people of the Hindu community are not wearing bangles,” he said while visiting Muzaffarpur district.
“One of Nitish Kumar’s cabinet ministers made remarks against the ‘Ram Charit Manas’ and other leaders are threatening to make cities of the country like Karbala. Bihar is going under the worst phase under the leadership of CM Nitish Kumar,” he added.
BJP Rajya Sabha member and former Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said: “Nitish Kumar should take cognisance of statements on ‘Ram Charit Manas’ and Karbala. JD-U and RJD are competing with each other to spread resentment in the country. The Chief Minister has lost control over the leaders who are making objectionable remarks.” said Sushil Kumar Modi, Rajya Sabha MP of BJP.
Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Samrat Chaudhary said: “I don’t know what is the religion of that leader and I am not interested in knowing him but I must say that we will not allow any city to become Karbala in the country. It is not possible until BJP is here. BJP believes in respecting every caste and religion and we cannot make statements one sided. We have strong objections over the statement of the JD-U leader and we demand action against him.”
Even the RJD leaders are criticizing the statement of Balyawi.
Party spokesperson Mritunjay Tiwari said: “The statement of the JD-U leader was not right. The JD-U is a part of Mahagathbandhan and it is capable of taking action against him. The RJD respects every caste and religion.”
Balyawi, during a rally in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh on Thursday, targeted sacked BJP leader Nupur Sharma, over her controversial comments over the Prophet, saying that if anyone belittled him, “we will make cities of the country like Karbala”.
Earlier, Bihar Education Minister Chandra Shekhar Yadav, of the RJD, had termed ‘Ram Charit Manas’ as one of the books that spread hatred in the society.
