In September last year at the IBSA Foreign Minister’s Meeting chaired by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, the Ministers’ adopted and released a Joint Ministerial Statement on the Reform of the UN Security Council.
In the statement they emphasised the need for the international community to redouble efforts and bolster commitment to achieve tangible progress for accelerated and comprehensive reform of the UN Security Council.
The ministers also renewed commitment towards expansion of Security Council membership by including representation from emerging and developing countries, in both the permanent and non-permanent categories, for achieving a representative, inclusive, equitable, responsive and effective UN Security Council.
Ahead of the IBSA Ministerial Meeting, the meeting of Sherpas’ was held in August 2020 where the Sherpas reiterated their appreciation for the work done by the IBSA Fund on Poverty and Hunger Alleviation that is spread over 31 projects in 20 countries.
The IBSA Fund has won many accolades, the Sherpa’s reckoned.
Since its formalization at Foreign Ministers meeting in Brasilia in June 2003, IBSA has come a long way demonstrating most vividly the desire and feasibility of South-South Cooperation beyond the conventional areas of exchange of experts and training.
