New Delhi, (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 9 said the Ayodhya verdict should not be seen as a victory or defeat of anyone and urged all to strengthen the spirit of nationalism.
“The Supreme Court has given its verdict on the Ayodhya issue. This verdict shouldn’t be seen as a win or loss for anybody. Be it Ram Bhakti or Rahim Bhakti, it is imperative that we strengthen the spirit of Rashtra Bhakti. May peace and harmony prevail,” he said.
He said the calm and peace maintained by the 130 crore Indians in the run-up to the verdict manifests India’s inherent commitment to peaceful coexistence.
“May this very spirit of unity and togetherness power the development trajectory of our nation. May every Indian be empowered.”
The Supreme Court on November 9 gave the 2.77 acre disputed land in Ayodhya to the Hindus and asked the government to give alternate land to the Sunni Waqf Board, which was a party to the title suit.
In the unanimous judgement, the five-member bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi directed the Center to form within three months a trust which will build a temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah welcomed the Ayodhya verdict and said the decision will strengthen the country’s unity, integrity and great culture, as he urged all communities to maintain peace and harmony.
He said he is confident that “this landmark judgment” will prove to be a milestone. “This decision will further strengthen India’s unity, integrity and great culture.”
Veteran BJP leader L.K. Advani, the person credited with bringing the Ram temple movement to the political centre-stage, on Saturday said he stood vindicated after the Supreme Court verdict in the Ayodhya title suit and that it was time to “leave all contention and acrimony behind” and embrace communal concord and peace.
“I join all my countrymen in wholeheartedly welcoming the historic judgement delivered by the five-judge bench of the Supreme Court today in the Ayodhya matter. I stand vindicated, and feel deeply blessed, that the Supreme Court has given its unanimous verdict paving the way for the construction of a magnificent temple for Lord Ram at Ramjanmabhhomi in Ayodhya,” Advani said.
Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra urged people to respect the Supreme Court verdict on Ayodhya land dispute case and appealed to all sections of society to maintain mutual harmony and trust.
The Congress Working Committee (CWC) said it respects the verdict of the Supreme Court in the Ayodhya title dispute case and appeal to all to maintain peace and harmony.
In a statement, the CWC said it is the responsibility of each one of us to reaffirm the tradition of mutual respect and unity among all that has defined our society through the ages.
“We appeal to all the parties concerned and to all communities to abide by the secular values and spirit of fraternity enshrined in our Constitution and to maintain peace and harmony,” it said.
BJP veteran Murli Manohar Joshi, who was one of the prominent faces of the party’s Ram temple movement, welcomed the Supreme Court judgement in the Ayodhya title dispute and termed it as a victory for every Indian and not only Hindus.
Welcoming the Supreme Court verdict on the Ayodhya dispute, Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray said “this is a historic day and a golden moment for India”.
“An age-old controversy has ended… After years, justice has been finally delivered. All have accepted the judgement and we must all welcome it. I bow before the judiciary,” he said.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that the long-awaited verdict of the Supreme Court on the Ayodhya land dispute has finally come and all should respect the verdict.
Without going into the details of the Ayodhya judgement, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that with the Supreme Court ruling on an issue that has caused a lot of turbulence in the past, all parties should accept it gracefully.
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday said that the Supreme Court judgment in Ayodhya title dispute case must be respected.
Welcoming the apex court’s verdict, outgoing Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that “the verdict strengthens democracy in India”.
Leaders from different political parties in Maharashtra hailed the Supreme Court judgement in the Ayodhya dispute.
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Asaduddin Owaisi said the verdict was a “victory of belief over facts”. Owaisi said he was not satisfied with the ruling and quoted a former CJI to say the top court is “indeed supreme but not infallible”. National Commission for Minorities chairperson Ghayorul Hasan Rizvi, however, said that Muslims were happy with the order and condemned remarks made by Jilani on considering a review plea.
Reacting Asaduddin Owaisi’s comment on Ayodhya verdic, Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that “some people are suffering from the disease of Talibani mindset.”
“These people should understand that the country will not allow any person to disturb our peace, harmony and brotherhood,” Naqvi added.
The Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid, Shahi Imam Ahmed Bukhari has welcomed the apex court judgement on the Ayodhya title suit, and said he does not agree with the All India Muslim Personal Law Board which said it may file a review petition on the verdict.
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board has said that after studying the judgement the board may file review petition. Board Executive member Kamal Farooqui said that this judgement is not based on facts but faith.
