Dutee creates 100m national record, set for Asian Games

Guwahati: Dutee Chand broke her 100m national record to become the fastest woman of the meet while Hima Das clinched her second gold by posting a personal best in the 400m as they shared the spotlight on the final day of the 58th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships.
Dutee qualified in 100m and 200m while Hima booked the Asiad ticket in the 200m and 400m. The 22-year-old Dutee ran 11.29s in the semifinals race to better her national record of 11.30s and later clinched the gold in 11.32s in the final to establish herself as a gold medal contender in the upcoming Asian Games.
The qualifying time in the event is 11.67s.
Hima clocked yet another personal best of 51.13s to take the gold, her second yellow metal after the 200m gold. Nirmala Sheoran of Haryana, who also qualified for the Asian Games, finished second in 51.25s — her personal best. In the men’s triple jump, Arpinder Singh of Haryana and Rakesh Babu of Kerala qualified for the Games after winning the gold and silver with the efforts of 17.09m and 16.63m, respectively. The qualifying mark for the event is 16.62m.
