Covid cases in India in last 24-hours

New Delhi, April 26: India’s coronavirus case count on Sunday evening rose to 26,917, according to the latest numbers released by Union Health Ministry. Here are ten things you need to know about the extent of the outbreak of the pandemic.
The country witnessed jump in cases by 1,975 to 26,917, which is the second highest 24-hour jump after the 1,990 cases witnessed on Sunday morning.
With 293 new cases and no deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the total coronavirus cases in the national capital reached 2,918 on Sunday while the toll remained 54. Among the total 2,918 cases, 1,931 patients (or 66 per cent) were less than 50 years of age, while 469 were between 50-59 years and 518 patients were above the age of 60 years, the Health Report said. Among the total 54 deaths, over half (29) were of those aged 60 years or above, 15 were aged between 50 to 59 and the rest 10 were below 50 years. Among the total deaths, 46 people (85 per cent) had other serious diseases as well.
Mumbai’s Covid-19 toll crossed the 200 mark to touch 204 on Sunday while the number of new cases in the state overshot the 8,000 threshold to reach 8,068, health officials said. The state notched 440 new Covid-19 patients cases – compared to the highest of 811 on Saturday – and recorded 19 new deaths, taking the state’s toll to 342. Twice this week, the state notched single-day high figures of 552 new cases, zooming to a new record of 778 on Thursday, and then 811 on Saturday, creating huge concern among the health authorities. Of the total 19 deaths, 12 were recorded in Mumbai, taking the total from 191 to 204 and the number of Covid-19 positive patients in the city shot up from 5,049 to 5,407 – with 358 new cases.
Gujarat became the second Indian state to have more than 3,000 cases. Its case count currently stands at 3,071. Total coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad climbed to 2,003. The high Covid-19 mortality rate in Gujarat could be due to the dominance of the L-type strain of coronavirus, found to have been more prevalent in Wuhan in China, where the outbreak started, experts said.
In Karnataka, one woman died of Covid-19 while three more people, including two women, tested positive, taking the state’s tally to 503, an official said on Sunday. Of the total cases, 302 are active, 182 discharged and 19 dead. Bengaluru remains the highest hotspot, with 133 cases, including 71 active, and 5 dead, followed by Mysuru with 89 (51 active), Belagavi 54 (47 active, 1 dead), Vijayapura 39 (37 active, 2 dead), Kalaburagi 38 (27 active, 4 dead) and Bagalkote 24 total (17 active, 1 dead)
The total number of Covid-19 cases in Telangana crossed 1,000 with 11 more persons testing positive on Sunday, officials said.
All 11 cases during last 24 hours were reported from Greater Hyderabad. This took the state’s tally to 1,001. Out of 1001 cases, Greater Hyderabad accounted for 540 cases. It also reported maximum number of deaths (18). Hinting at another extension of the lockdown, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao on Sunday said if people extend their support to the lockdown for some more days, the situation would further improve.
The number of coronavirus cases in Andhra Pradesh rose to 1,016 as 61 more tested positive. Two deaths were also reported in the state.
Bihar reported 28 fresh coronavirus cases on Saturday, raising the total number of patients in the state to 251, a top Health Department official said here. According to Principal Secretary, Health, Sanjay Kumar, Patna district witnessed a rise with seven cases followed by Kaimur (6) and Buxar (5).
Four people tested positive for coronavirus in Jharkhand on Saturday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 63, officials said here. Of the fresh cases, three are from Ranchi”s Hindpiri locality and one from the city”s Kantatoli area, a health official said.
Uttarakhand has reported 1 new case of Coronavirus as of April 23. This means that the state has 47 total cases of Coronavirus, out of which 23 are active and 24 have recovered, with no deaths so far.
Another 27 people tested positive in Jammu & Kashmir on Sunday, taking total number of Covid-19 patients in the Union Territory to 523. All the new cases on Sunday are in Kashmir division. So far, 137 patients have completely recovered while six have died. Of the 380 active cases, 29 are in the Jammu division and 351 in the Kashmir division.
Kerala Health Minister K.K. Shailaja on Sunday said 11 more individuals have tested positive for coronavirus in the state, taking the total number of people presently under treatment to 123. “Of the new cases, three includes medical professionals, including a doctor,” she said. “A total of 19665 people are under observation at homes and 462 others are being observed at various hospitals in the state,” said Shailaja. In Kerala, four districts – Kannur, Kasargode, Kozhikode and Malappuram – are classed as red zones, while the remaining 10 districts are orange zones with 87 hotspots, including three added on Sunday.
Seven more people tested positive for coronavirus in Punjab on Saturday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 158, officials said.
17 new coronavirus cases were reported on April 26 in Haryana, according to data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This brings the total reported cases of coronavirus in Haryana to 289. Among the total people infected as on date, 176 have recovered and 3 have passed away.
57 new coronavirus cases were reported on April 25 in Bengal, according to data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This brings the total reported cases of coronavirus in Bengal to 571. Among the total people infected as on date, 103 have recovered and 18 have passed away.
Even as four of the eight northeastern states are free from novel coronavirus and its spread tamed in other four states, authorities have kept a tight vigil on India’s borders in the region as threat of the disease spilling over from Bangladesh and Myanmar looms large. Northeastern states’ fear has deepened after Bangladesh reported more than 140 coronavirus death and over 5,000 infections.
