Community Unites at Maitri Gala to Raise $1 Million for Survivors of Abuse

Palo Alto, California: Maitri, on Saturday, April 5, lit up the Crowne Plaza Hotel with an extraordinary group of change makers, community leaders, and compassionate supporters and raised $1 million to sustain and expand the safety net for victims and survivors of domestic violence.

These vital funds will help strengthen Maitri’s wraparound services—giving survivors not only safety but the support to rebuild, to thrive, and to dream again. From crisis intervention to long-term empowerment, Maitri’s programs are designed to meet survivors where they are and walk beside them as they shape a life free from fear.

Some highlights of the evening included a short film produced by Maitri that shed light on the issue of domestic abuse through the experiences of a survivor. Adding to the allure of the evening were a mesmerizing performance by the Kala Vandana Dance Company and a splendid silent and live auction, featuring an array of exclusive items generously donated by local businesses and artists.

Dr. Geetha Krishnamurthy, President of Maitri, expressed gratitude to all the gala attendees and invited them to join the movement to prevent domestic violence. She said: “It’s heartwarming to see this level of support from the community and I am sure we can end domestic abuse in our community in the near future. Ours is a small community in the Silicon Valley and let’s start with us”

A highlights of the evening was a poignant short film produced by Maitri, which offered a window into the heartbreaking yet resilient experiences of a domestic violence survivor. The film underscored the importance of supporting survivors and raising awareness around the issue of abuse.
