Bollywood's hottest newcomers of 2010

Every year there are loads of actors, who debut in Bollywood. This year too was no exception.

But did they make the grade? Let’s find out.

Sonakshi Sinha — veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha’s daughter scored big time with her debut movie Dabangg. Though her co-star, Salman Khan was clearly the star of the movie, Sonakshi’s beauty, poise and performance shone through.

It’s not easy to hold your own opposite someone like Salman, but this once plump newcomer showed us that it can be done.

Babara Mori — This sexy Mexican actress is no stranger to films having acted in a number of Spanish films.

For her Bollywood debut Kites, she was paired opposite Hrithik Roshan. The chemistry between the two was so steamy that it triggered rumors of an affair.

While the film bombed, Barbara’s beauty and sexy body made sure she stayed in the news long after the film did not.

Monikangna Dutta — Fed up with modeling, Monikangana Dutta decided to give acting a try.

She got a call from director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who saw her pictures in a magazine. She auditioned for the role of Estella, Hrithik Roshan’s assistant-cum-lover in Guzaarish and got the part.

The role, however, was a small one to actually make any impact. Plus, with Hrithik and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the movie, this long-legged model didn’t stand a chance.

Aruna Shields is a British actress, who started her career with theatre and later acted in English movies like Ali G Indahouse and Jesus the Curry King in 2002, Live Bait and Private Moments (2005), and Mission Improbable in 2007.

But it was her bikini-clad avatar in this year’s action flick Prince opposite Vivek Oberoi that got her noticed. She followed it up with Mr Singh Mrs Mehta where she appeared in the nude for a couple of scenes.

Super model Lisa Hayden’s Bollywood debut reads like a Bollywood script.

The half Australian half Malayali hottie was offered a role in Aisha after Anil Kapoor spotted her at a coffee shop. She had a pretty sexy role in the movie, which she pulled off very convincingly.

Before Bollywood beckoned, Amrita dabbled in theatre and ads (as a copy writer).

Like Hayden, her debut movie was Aisha. Unlike Hayden, however, her role was that of a girl-next-door, which she managed to portray very well.

Trisha: She’s already an established name down South with films like Mounam Pesiyadhe, Saamy and Ghilli (all Tamil). She has also done few Telugu films.

Her Bollywood debut was opposite Akshay Kumar in Khatta Meetha. Since the movie revolved around Akshay’s character, the actress didn’t have much to do other than look glamorous.

National Award winning actress Priyamani has acted in all the four South Indian languages —Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada.

So it was just a matter of time before she turned her attention to Bollywood with Raavan. She soon followed it with the recently released Rakta Charitra II.

Being the talented actress she is, Priyamani did a decent job in both the films.

From jewelry designing to films, Rajat Barmecha’s Bollywood debut was a stunner.

Though not a commercial hit, his debut movie Udaan was critically acclaimed and a popular at the festival circuit.

Definitely an actor to watch out for.

While Sonakshi’s debut was a smash hit, her brother Luv Sinha’s debut Sadiyaan was the exact opposite.

That’s what happens when the lead hero lacks charisma. Not even the presence of Rishi Kapoor, Shabana Azmi, Rekha and Hema Malini could salvage the film.
