Ahead of 7th International Yoga Day, Indian missions abroad host events to raise awareness

From curtain raiser events to contests on social media, Indian Missions and Posts in more than 150 countries have organised a host of programs to raise awareness about yoga and enhance its popularity in the run up to the 7th International Day of Yoga on Monday.
The event has seen an enthusiastic response across the world over the past few days.
Celebrated Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt wished a healthy and peaceful living for all on International Day of Yoga 2021.
The Indian Embassy in Turkmenistan on Saturday organised a few common Yoga protocol sessions led by Yoga expert Sheetal Dalvi. Large number of Turkmen Yoga enthusiasts as well as foreign diplomats participated in this program.
Earlier on 31 May, as a curtain raiser, a quiz on Yoga and a demonstration session for students was organised by the Indian Embassy in Turkmenistan at the State Medical University in Ashgabat.
Yoga was performed on Sunday at the Chancery of the Embassy of India in Thailand under the guidance of Yoga Guru Sanjeev Chaturvedi.
The event was marked in hybrid mode with enthusiasts joining from multiple locations including Bangkok, Ubon Ratchathani, Rayong, Songkla, Chiangmai, Pattaya and Phuket.
Marking the 7th International Day of Yoga, the Embassy of India in Bulgaria and North Macedonia has organised a Yoga session and demonstration outside the National Palace of Culture in Sofia.
Over 100 yoga events are being held across Japan, most notable at Tokyo Skytree on 21 June.
Several Indian missions used the weekend to organise special events for the 7th International Yoga Day.
It was celebrated across Mali on Saturday led by Malian Yoga Guru, Couilbaly leading the session. Enthusiasistic Malians also marked the day in the town of Kouilkoro and Kita.
The 7th International Day of Yoga was celebrated at Sanayeh Park in Beirut on Sunday. Organised by the Indian Embassy in Lebanon, it was joined by Lebanese and Indian yoga enthusiasts.
‘Yoga with soldiers’ read a Twitter post by the High Commission of India in Jamaica which organised a Yoga Session for Military Cadets at the Jamaican Defence Force Training Camp.
The Indian Embassy in Uzbekistan marked the 7th International Day of Yoga in Tashkent on Sunday in presence of Deputy Prime Minister, Aziz Abdukhakimov.
On Friday, Brazil’s First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro joined a webinar on Holistic Approach to Yoga in Modern Era organised by the Embassy of India in Brazil.
The Indian mission in Brazil is also organising a talk on ‘Yoga for Good Health, Happiness and Harmony’ by Manmath Gharote, Director of Lonavla Yoga Institute.
The Indian Embassy in Russia had organised a programme on Sunday recounting the Patanjali Sutras by Arun Dubey, Music Teacher JNCC and Yoga Asanas and meditation session.
More than 300 Yoga enthusiasts from China joined hands for the Common Yoga Protocol at the Embassy of India in Beijing, China. A curtain raiser event organised by the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre also focused on spreading Yoga among diplomatic community in China.
As part of 7th International Day of Yoga, the Embassy of India, Baku in association with Baku Youth Center & Art of Living Azerbaijan, live streamed a Yoga session by yoga teacher Kanan Mammadov.
International Day of Yoga is celebrated every year on June 21.
Recognizing its universal appeal, on December 11, 2014, the United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga.
The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga. The draft resolution establishing the International Day of Yoga was proposed by India and endorsed by a record 175 member states.
Every year, International Day of Yoga is celebrated around a different theme.
Recognising the importance of yoga in promoting holistic health and also taking into account the impact of the on-going pandemic on the mental and psychological health, this year’s commemoration centres around ‘Yoga for well being.’
