3 killed, 6 injured in blast in Bathinda, Punjab

CHANDIGARH: At least three people were killed and several injured in a car blast in Maur Mandi constituency of poll-bound Punjab on January 31.
The constituency is part of Bathinda district. Punjab goes to polls on February 4.

According to control room message, the blast took place inside a Maruti Alto PB05C8973 when it was moving towards Maur city from a site of truck union office.
Those killed in the attack include a nine-year-old boy. Sources in Bathinda Police said that due to intensity of blast the incident cannot be ruled out as a terror attack even as there were broken pieces of an LPG cylinder near the site.

Six persons who were passing by the site were also injured and taken to a neighborhood hospital. Maur is one of the hot seats in Bathinda district as Congress candidate¬†Harminder Jassi, who is fighting here, is the close relative of Sirsar dera head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Sigh. Jassi’s daughter is married to the dera sect head’s son.
