3 killed, 6 injured in blast in Bathinda, Punjab

CHANDIGARH: At least three people were killed and several injured in a car blast in Maur Mandi constituency of poll-bound Punjab on January 31.
The constituency is part of Bathinda district. Punjab goes to polls on February 4.

According to control room message, the blast took place inside a Maruti Alto PB05C8973 when it was moving towards Maur city from a site of truck union office.
Those killed in the attack include a nine-year-old boy. Sources in Bathinda Police said that due to intensity of blast the incident cannot be ruled out as a terror attack even as there were broken pieces of an LPG cylinder near the site.

Six persons who were passing by the site were also injured and taken to a neighborhood hospital. Maur is one of the hot seats in Bathinda district as Congress candidate Harminder Jassi, who is fighting here, is the close relative of Sirsar dera head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Sigh. Jassi’s daughter is married to the dera sect head’s son.
