Forget the tan
Tanning is inevitable. Sunscreens do help protect the skin from tanning and UV rays but if you have been careless, these simple scrubs will help reverse the effects of tan. A facial scrub is useful after washing or cleansing the skin. You can buy a facial scrub according to skin type. You can also make one at home with ingredients from the kitchen.
Ground almonds make a good facial scrub. It’s fairly simple. Just soak the almonds in hot water till the skin comes out easily. Then allow them to become totally dry. Grind into a powder and store in an airtight jar. Every morning, add a little cold milk to two teaspoons of the powder and rub the mixture gently on the skin. Wash off with water. If you have oily skin, mix rice powder with curd, apply, wash, every day. However, do not apply on pimples, acne or rash. For normal to dry skin, use it twice a week.
To lighten skin color, add a pinch of turmeric (haldi) to curd and apply daily. Wash off after 20-30 minutes. This helps to counteract the effects of sun-exposure. You could also mix a teaspoon of honey with two of lemon juice and apply daily on the face. Wash it off with plain water after 20 minutes. This helps lighten skin color. Tomato juice or pulp also helps to lighten skin color, but is more suited for oily skin.
Another remedy to prevent sun-damage and protect the skin uses sesame seeds (til). Take a handful of sesame seed, crush and add half a cup of water. Let it stand for two hours. Strain the liquid and use it to wash your face. Sesame seed is said to have sun-protection properties and has been used since ancient times.
Health tip
Lower back pain is the most commonly found problem among people. It occurs due to lifting heavy load or sudden twisting movement of the lower back while reaching out for an object. Some of the other causes could be repetitive movements while pursuing activities like gardening, sleeping on a soft or sagging bed. Symptoms include pain on forward bending, climbing stairs, coughing or sneezing, getting up from a chair, etc.
Treatment: Lumbar support alleviates pain in acute cases. A massage helps in relaxing muscles and reducing pain. Placing a pillow between the knees while lying on the side also helps in decreasing tension in the muscles.
