Get a head start on fashion this spring by sporting trends that are likely to become a rage. Aneesha Rai gives you an update on what our fashion designers predict…

Tribal Rules

“Contemporary clothing with tribal artwork on it is going to be in,” announces Shilpi Choudhury, a fashion designer and coordinator at the Miss Bangalore beauty pageant. Her collection for spring focuses on Saura tribal art and Kashmiri carpet embroidery on western clothes which is full of spunk. “In colors, yellow is ‘going to rock this season,” adds Shilpi.

Bolder the Better

Bright, bold contrasting accessories are here to stay, and a new entry is vintage chrome jewelry giving a futuristic feel this spring. That’s for accessories, of course and they’ll do just fine with the tribal wear!

Print ‘Pant’her

Wear your pants striped, tie-dyed or even with a floral design teamed with a plain tee with funky accessories. And you’re good enough to even strut the fashion streets of Paris!

Use the Right Headgear

Yes, the ‘Gossip Girl’ trend by Blair Waldorf is catching on. Headbands are back, but they aren’t as sober as they used to be. The word is ‘Big’. Big bows, feathers or bunny-eared headbands, take your pick and that too in enticing tones of purple, green or silver.

‘Haute’ Pants

It’s time to hit the gym to get those legs in shape. Hot pants are back, and they’re shorter than ever! Wear them printed or in any loud color- hot pink, lime green or even a racy red.

Team it up with Leg Warmers

Team up the hot pants with cute leg-warmers, a bring-back from last season. Leg warmers have come back in a range of funky colors, stripes and designs in thin woolen fabrics so that you don’t feel hot! Team them up with matching slippers and you’ll be spunky enough to walk the runway.

Blaze it with the Blazer

Boyfriend jackets are here to stay as well. Now made of thin jersey material, it gives you a subtle, classy, sophisticated look without trying too hard! Try them in neutral shades like deep blue, grey and black.

Trousseau Trends

Planning to be a blushing bride this season? “Break away from the stereotypical reds, pinks and greens and stand out on your wedding day by switching to sultry brocade work and bright brilliant royal blue,” says Arpita, a trousseau designer from the fashion label Pride Collections. Also in vogue, net and velvet sarees give you unbelievable grace and elegance on your big day!

Coy Cowl Couture

Cowl neck tops are back with a bang. Team pretty cowl neck tops in shades of green, maroon and beige with your regular office wear to bring out your fashionable side, yet maintaining the subtlety of office atmosphere.

Mystique Batik

Want to sport the exotic Indo-Western look this season? Wear the traditional batik prints that are in vogue this season. They’ve been used on skirts, tops and even shorts to add the contemporary yet Indian feel this season.

‘Overall’ Style

Overalls have made a big comeback, but not in denim. They have come back in silk, jersey and loose and flowy materials with pale floral designs, or even solid colors. They are studded with crystals to add a glint and glamour for the perfect evening out. If you are pear-shaped, try halter jumpsuits to accentuate the upper half of your body.
