Press Release

Chicago: The Sindhi Foundation staged a protest in front of Pakistani Consulate Chicago. They put forward mainly three demands to Pakistani authorities: free Priya Kumari, stop human rights violations against Sindhis, and declare the fraudulent 2023 census null and void.

Priya Kumari is a female Sindhi Hindu minor, who was abducted three years ago in the Sindh Province of Pakistan. There is a consistent pattern of crimes against Sindhi Hindus in Pakistan. Sindhi Foundation believes that the crimes are state sponsored. The state of Pakistan is working on the agenda to homogenise Pakistani society in favour of Islam and the Urdu language. To fulfil this agenda, they are creating difficult circumstances for Sindhi Hindus, so that they should migrate to India. Unfortunately, this plan is further facilitated by the Modi government in India as they passed a controversial discriminatory immigration law to encourage the immigration of non-Muslims to India.

To fulfil the same agenda, state of Pakistan has manipulated the 2023 census to show increased percentage of Urdu speaking people in Karachi from 42% (2017) to greater than 50% (2023). The census was conducted out of turn in 2023, when it was due in 2027. The census was conducted on the demand of MQM, which is a terrorist organisation (as recognised by Canada) whose agenda is to break up Sindh. To fulfil their agenda, it was important to show Urdu speakers as the majority in Karachi through census manipulation. They achieved this by making a deal with Asif Ali Zardari, the current Pakistani President who is an agent of the Pakistani Army. Zardari required support from MQM in passing a no confidence motion against Imran Khan. MQM agreed on the condition that Zardari would further their agenda by manipulating census results.

The Sindhi Foundation also listed human rights violations against Sindhi people which includes occupying lands of Sindh for cantonments and corporate farming, enforced disappearances of political activists, extra judicial killings of journalists etc.

Sindhi vowed to continue their protest until their demands are met including safe return of Priya Kumari. Sindhi Foundation appealed to international agencies to suspend aid to Pakistan and make it conditional until human rights violations against Sindhis are stopped and Priya Kumari safely returned to her parents. The movement will continue until the freedom of Priya Kumari.
