Silicon Valley, Ca: Pratik Pandey, a 35-year-old Indian-American software engineer at Microsoft, was found dead at the company’s Silicon Valley campus on August 20. He had arrived at the office the previous evening and was discovered unresponsive early the next morning. Authorities have ruled out any signs of suspicious activity, and the cause of death is under investigation by the Santa Clara County medical examiner.
Pandey, a resident of Mountain View, California, worked on Microsoft Fabric, a data analytics platform that rivals tools like Snowflake. He was part of a team led by Microsoft’s Executive Vice President Scott Guthrie and was recognized for his expertise in micro frontend architecture and data-driven applications. His technical skills spanned Java, TypeScript, React, Angular, and cloud systems.
Originally from India, Pandey earned his bachelor's degree from Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal, before moving to the U.S. for his master’s studies at California State University and San Jose State University. He began his career at Newgen Software in Noida and later worked at John Deere in Pune, before joining companies like Apple, Illumina, and Walmart Labs in the U.S. He joined Microsoft in 2020.
Pandey is remembered by family and colleagues as a joyful, hardworking professional with a radiant smile. He was also a father and loved playing soccer. A viewing is scheduled in the Bay Area as his family arranges to bring his body back to India for final rites. Tributes have poured in across social media, with local leaders and community members expressing shock and grief. Santa Clara City Council candidate Satish noted that Pandey represented the spirit of the community. Microsoft has not issued a public statement regarding the incident.
