Los Angeles, CA: A 70-year-old Sikh man, Harpal Singh, is in critical condition after a vicious assault in North Hollywood on August 4. Singh, known for taking daily walks near the Lankershim Sikh Gurdwara, was attacked outside a 7-Eleven near Saticoy Street and Lankershim Boulevard around 3:15 p.m.

According to witnesses, an unidentified man on a bicycle approached Singh and violently struck him with a golf club for unknown reasons. The attacker fled, leaving the bloodied victim and the weapon at the scene. Graphic surveillance footage captured the aftermath, showing Singh sitting on the ground, severely injured, as bystanders tried to assist him.

Singh remains unresponsive in the ICU after undergoing three major surgeries to address internal bleeding and facial trauma. His family, devastated by the attack, says the incident has shaken the Sikh community’s sense of safety.

Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and seeking witnesses. While the LAPD has not officially classified the incident as a hate crime, the motive remains unclear. Community leaders, including Los Angeles Councilman Adrin Nazarian, have called for stronger protections and increased police presence around religious sites. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Singh’s medical expenses.

“We don’t feel safe anymore,” said Singh’s brother, visibly emotional. “He was just taking a walk, like he did every day.”

Authorities have not yet identified the attacker or confirmed a motive, but the investigation is ongoing. Police are reviewing nearby surveillance footage and seeking witnesses.

Community leaders are now calling for increased police presence in the area and stronger protections for minority groups, particularly amid rising concerns about targeted violence.
