Obama backs India’s UNSC bid

New Delhi: In an historic speech, US President Barack Obama addressed both Houses of the Parliament and backed India’s bid for a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

“The world needs a reformed UNSC which includes India. India must get its rightful place and we fully back India’s bid for the UNSC,” Obama said.

Emphasizing the importance of India, Barack Obama said: “I am proud to visit India so early during my presidency. India is not an emerging power, rather it has already emerged.”
