Nikhil & Rithika are Boogie Woogie US champions

Rolling Meadows, IL: It had all the ingredients of a pot-boiler, some energetic performances, a cheering crowd that was totally engrossed in the proceedings and a tie in the junior section. In the end two very unique performances determined the winners as Nikhil Sadhnani from New York in the senior category and eight-year-old Rithika Ashok from Washington, DC, in the junior category finished as the champions in the US National Finals of this very popular dance contest.
Interestingly, Nikhil won for his performance for a nostalgic old melody of Raj Kapoor, Kisi ki muskurahton pe ho nisaar, while Rithika won the junior category performing a Govinda number, Soni de nakhren with great élan and expressions. The two generations were pleasantly spanned in riveting performances by the two winners. The runners-up were Shivani Srivastava of New Hampshire in the senior category and Shivali Patel of North Carolina in the junior category after a tie and run off performance with winner Rithika Ashok.
Twenty-six young champion dancers in junior and senior categories from different states of the country participated in this contest held at the classy Meadows Club on Sunday, April 4th.
The show was hosted by a vivacious Shebani Kulkarni, the co-founder of Dhrishti and the Meadows Club and featured a pulsating performance by Pop Star and celebrity judge Raghav. The other celebrity judges were Dance guru Renuka Srinivasan and star dancer and actress Amrapali Ambegaonkar.
The show was hosted and presented by Dhrishti Media and Sony Entertainment Television, Asia.
A variety of dances and concepts were presented by these young dancers, which prompted a lot of praise from the judges, the host and the audiences. Classical styles by some intermingled with folk and ballet by others as these extremely talented young performers wowed the cheering audience with energy and pizzazz.
The winning trophies were presented by Hollywood actor Mike Starr of the upcoming release Cash, Mr. Mani of national sponsor Aloha Mind Math and Madan Kulkarni, Principal and CEO of the Meadows Club.
Bouquets were also presented to local sponsors, Dr.Ashraf Dabawala of Horizon Medical Center, Dr Sheri Merchant of Women’s Doc and Mr. Naren Patel of MedStar Labs.
The event concluded with a gourmet cuisine dinner by the chefs of the Meadows Club. “We had a great time here, especially the food and hospitality were awesome” gushed senior participant Sabrine Ahmed Iqbal and her family from Washington, DC. This view was seconded by many participants and attendees of the event as the organization, ambience and stage sets too came in for a lot of acclaim.
The international finals of the Boogie Woogie, which will feature participants from several countries, will be held on August 1st, at the Meadows Club here for the first time.
