Hyderabad: The temple-town of Tirupati will play host to the Fourth World Telugu Conference (WTC) in December this year.

The state-sponsored event is being organized in Andhra Pradesh after a gap of 37 years.

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy held discussions in Hyderabad on July 24 with  some of his cabinet colleagues and senior officials on the arrangements for the prestigious conference, to be held from December 27 to 29.

They agreed to release Rs. 25 crore for organizing the event on a grand scale.

“Promotion of Telugu language and culture is the state government’s responsibility,” a press release from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), quoting Kiran Kumar, said.

Eminent Telugu people, who have made a mark in different spheres of life, would be invited from all over the world to the conference.

Cultural conferences would be held in all districts of Andhra Pradesh in September to highlight the significance of the WTC and motivate widespread participation of people in the event, the CMO release added.

The First World Telugu Conference was held for a week in Hyderabad in April, 1975.
