Shiv Thapa scripts history, wins gold

New Delhi: The 19-year-old boxer, Shiv Thapa made history after clinching the gold medal at the Asian qualifiers in Astana, Kazakasthan. Shiv Thapa, who has already booked a berth for the London Olympics-2012 after reaching the semi-final stage of the tournament, defeated Wessam Salamana of Syria (18-11) in the Bantamweight category.

This would be his second successive gold medal. He has already won a gold medal in his inaugural international tournament.

This youngster maintained the lead throughout and defeated the Syrian by a comfortable margin. The win would bolster the confidence of the athlete by the dozen, who would be making his maiden Olympics appearance in London, this July.
