Gujarat crosses hundred mark with death toll 103

Gandhinagar, April 22 (IANS) Gujarat crossed the one-hundred mark as far as the death toll due to covid-19 is concerned, as on Wednesday the state recorded the second highest number of deaths — 103 — after Maharashtra, which has the maximum deaths in the country, 269.
Gujarat also registered a total of 2,407 positive cases of Corona on Wednesday as 135 more positive cases were added in the evening.
Crossing the 1500-mark, Ahmedabad continued to lead the state with maximum positive cases found on Wednesday evening with 67 fresh positive cases, on top of the 61 registered in the morning and continued to contribute almost 60-65 percent of the state’s total.
Out of the 135 positive cases found on the Wednesday evening, Ahmedabad continued to lead the state with 67 fresh positive cases. Ahmedabad was followed by Surat with 51, Aravalli 9, Chotta Udepur 4, Anand 2 and one positive case each in Vadodara and Banaskantha. There are 5 districts in the state where the Corona has not shown is appearance till now.
The health authorities have carried out a total of 39,421 so far out of which 2,407 have been found positive and 37,014 negative.
With this, Gujarat has now 2,407 positive cases by Wednesday evening. Crossing the 1500-mark, Ahmedabad continued to lead the state with maximum positive cases 1,501, followed by Surat 415, Vadodara 208, Rajkot 41, Bhavnagar 32, Anand 30, Bharuch 24, Gandhinagar and Aravalli with 17 each, Banaskantha 16, Patan 15, Narmada and Mahisagar with 12 each, Panchmahal and Chotta Udepur with 11 each, Botad 9, Mahesana 7, Kutch 6, Dahod 4, Porbandar, Kheda, Gir-Somnath, Valsad and Sabarkantha with 3 each and Jamnagar, Morbi, Navsari and Tapi with one each.
“Out of the total 2,125 active cases, the condition of 2,112 is stable while there are 13 patients still are on ventilator,” said Jayanti Ravi, the principal secretary, Health and family welfare Department, Gujarat.
Gujarat has now become the state with not only the second highest number of positive cases in the country after Maharashtra, but also as far as the casualties due to Corona. The state crossed the hundred mark for death toll with 103 positive cases succumbing their lives to the deadly virus till now.
There were five deaths reported on Wednesday morning. During the day, eight more patients succumbed to the virus.
Out of the total eight deaths, three were in Vadodara. Two women (55), (60) admitted in SSG Hospital Vadodara, and a male (63) in GMERS Gotri, Vadodara, lost their lives fighting against the virus.
Five males in Ahmedabad’s SVP hospital, (49),(59),(58),(56) and (55) also succumbed during the day.
So far, out of the total 103 deaths, 62 people have died from the virus infection in Ahmedabad alone, followed by 12 in Surat, 10 in Vadodara and 5 in Bhavnagar.
“As far as the total number of testing done for Corona patients is concerned, Gujarat might be behind Delhi, Rajasthan, Tamilnadu or Maharashtra. But if single city testing is concerned, we have the maximum number of testing with 2,650 tests per million,” added Ravi.
“The deaths in Gujarat have been mostly in the high-risk zone or in the comorbid zone. 9% of the deaths were in the high-risk age such as below 5 years and over 60 years and 77% positive patients succumbed were with comorbid conditions. Only 14% of the patients who died were of the non- comorbid condition,” added Ravi.
The total number of quarantined in the state is 32,317, where 28,591 are home quarantined, 3,426 in government facilities and 300 in private facilities.
