Atlanta, GA: College students at Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) have to spend a certain number of hours in their semester doing Charity /Philanthropy work. With this in mind Ms. Sarita Raturi – board member of an Indian Charity called “In Defense of Animals” IDA was approached by final Year Industrial Engineering students of  “Georgia Institute of Technology” in Atlanta. She recommended that   they   do a project to support IDA, India.

With Sarita’s advice the students submitted a term proposal to the faculty in September 2009 which was approved and work on the project started in the first week of October 2009.

The team of students that were a part of the project are: Dhruv Bhandari, Jeff Chau, Eric Crawshaw , Saloni Mehra, Colin Malone,  Aditya Nyayapathi and Munir Pathak.

The term  proposal they   were to execute outlined   the cause, plan of action and measuring the impact of the project. The students created a website to raise awareness and used it to generate donations for IDA, India. The students worked hard on this project and the initiative ended recently. Besides raising funds for IDA, India, these enterprising students created a lot of awareness about Animal welfare   and   the work done by  IDA, India.

In an interview with India Tribune, Sarita Raturi said, “In my various endeavors   here in the US in raising awareness on animal cruelty and need for animal welfare as well as raising funds, I was able to motivate a group of students at Georgia Institute of Technology to take up our organization as a project for their fall semester. They submitted their proposal  and   the Industrial Engineering faculty approved it. She wished all the  best for a bright future that each one of them is sure to have and a hope that many more students take up such causes in the future as well.”
