Dilip Kumar no more, B-Town recalls memories

Mumbai, July 7 (IANS) Tributes and condolences continued pouring in from the film fraternity for late legend Dilip Kumar all through Wednesday. The veteran actor passed away in a Mumbai hospital aged 98 in the early hours of the day.
Actors, singers, filmmakers and others associated with the film industry, especially whose lives he had touched, took to social media to mourn his demise, recall their experiences of meeting him and working with him, and offered their condolences to the bereaved family and his wife, veteran actress Saira Banu.
Veteran actor Dharmendra took to social media on Wednesday to mourn the demise of Bollywood legend Dilip Kumar, who passed away early in the day at the age of 98.
Dharmendra wrote in an Instagram post: “Extremely sad to lose my most affectionate brother in the industry. Jannat naseeb ho, Hamare Dalip Sahab ko (May he rest in heaven).”
Dharmendra has shared the screen with Dilip Kumar in the Bengali film “Paari” and its Hindi remake “Anokha Milan”.
Veteran actor Jeetendra remembered Dilip Kumar on his demise on Wednesday. Jeetendra said that Dilip Kumar was an inspiration and showed the way with grace.
“What can I say about this legend, Dilip Kumar Sahab, who showed us the way. Who showed us how it’s done, with so much grace and elan. He has been an inspiration to people like me who have aspired to be like him in every possible way. His love and warmth is unmatched and there will never be another like him,” said Jeetendra.
Jeetender, 79, had shared the screen space with Dilip Kumar in two films, “Dharam Adhikari” (1986) and “Ghar Ki Izzat” (1994).
He shared his thoughts on the late legend, saying: “He was not just a genius on screen but also a great friend and a gem of a person. His contribution to cinema and our lives is huge. I will miss him dearly. May he rest in peace. Condolences to the entire family and Sairaji.”
Actor Aamir Khan tweeted a short note on Wednesday evening, mourning the death of Bollywood legend Dilip Kumar.
“Thank you Yusuf Sahab for the invaluable, priceless and unique gift you have given all of us through your work. For me you have always been and always will be the greatest ever. Salaam. Love. Aamir,” the actor posted on the official Instagram handle of his banner, Aamir Khan Productions.
Actress Karisma Kapoor on Wednesday posted a throwback picture that captures Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand in the same frame as her grandfather Raj Kapoor.
While Dev Anand died in 2011, Raj Kapoor passed away in 1988, and Dilip Kumar breathed his last on Wednesday.
Together the three actors summed up the epitome of Bollywood stardom in the fifties and the sixties, and were known as the Triumvirate of the Hindi film industry. Karisma’s caption reflected the notion.
“The legendary trio,” she wrote, with folded hands and red heart emojis accompanying the black and white Instagram image that has the three late legends dressed formally and smiling at the camera.

Actor Shahid Kapoor wrote: “We are all nothing but versions of you Dilip Saab. Every actor has studied you in awe. Wondering how you did it all. You were as close to PERFECT as it can get. As you return to your spiritual home. The prayers of millions are with you.”
Actor Anil Kapoor tweeted: “Our world is a little less bright today because one of our brightest stars has left us for the heavens. Dilip Sahab was very close to my father and I had the tremendous honour of sharing screen space with him in three of my most memorable films. He was and will always be the finest and greatest actor of our industry for me. He has inspired generations of artistes. Rest in peace Dilip Sahab, you remain in our minds and hearts forever.”
Actress Madhuri Dixit posted: “Every now & then some individuals come along who single-handedly alter the present & write history… One such legend was Dilip saab for the world of cinema.”
Actor Sanjay Dutt expressed: “So many special moments with Dilip Saab… he was like a father figure in my life. A huge loss for the film fraternity and for all of us, we have lost a legend today. My deepest condolences to Sairaji, may God give her strength in this tough time.”
Actress Rati Agnihotri said “Dilip saab as an actor was par excellence. He was an excellent co-star, too, and more than a 100 percent in every aspect. I remember sitting with him and hearing him talk about the books that he was reading at that time. He was a very knowledgeable man and always had a book in his hand. I am privileged to have met and worked with Dilip saab. I am absolutely privileged. Even the word privilege is not enough. I don’t know what to say and how to react. I am at a loss of words, actually. Dilip uncle, we love you and we will continue loving you.”

Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar tweeted to express grief at the demise of Bollywood legend Dilip Kumar on Wednesday.
Tweeting in Hindi, Mangeshkar wrote: “Yusuf bhai aaj apne chhotisi behen ko chhodke chale gaye… Yusuf bhai kya gaye, ek yug ka ant ho gaya, mujhe kuch sujh nahi raha, main bohot dukhi hoon, nishabd hoon, kayee batein, kayee yadein humein deke chale gayen (Yusuf bhai is gone, leaving behind his younger sister. His demise marks the end of an era. I am heartbroken. He has left behind so many memories).”
Mangeshkar was known to tie Rakhi on Dilip Kumar’s wrist every year.
Playback singer Asha Bhosle tweeted: “I’m very sad to hear that Dilip Saab is no longer with us. He was like a big brother to me. I have great admiration and respect for his wife Saira bhabhi who has really looked after and dedicated her life to him. Lots of love to her and the family. We share your grief.”
Actress Hema Malini posted: “Veteran actor, exemplary role model for all heroes, my respected co star in Kranti, Dilip Kumar ji, is no more. I recall a couple of visits to his house & the pleasant meetings I had with him & Saira ji. My heart goes out to Saira ji, his life partner of many years, for this loss.”
