New Delhi, May 27 (INN): In a positive development, India’s Covid-19 recovery rate has increased from 85.6 percent to 90 percent with more people getting cured of the illness.
“Overall recoveries are now exceeding the number of cases being reported on a daily basis. The recovery rate has increased from 85.6% to 90% now, it’s a positive indication,” said Joint Secretary, Union Health Ministry, Lav Agarwal during the daily briefing on Thursday.
He further stated that as many as 24 states have reported a decline in active cases since last week. At 22,17,320, the highest single-day COVID tests were conducted in the country on May 26.
During the briefing, NITI Aayog member VK Paul has informed that the country is on the downswing of the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
“It’s reassuring that we are on the downswing of the second wave, and it will be sustained if restrictions open up systematically as the time comes,” he said.
With as many as 2,11,298 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, the overall infections in the country mounted to 2,73,69,093, the health minister said earlier today.
The daily positivity rate stands at 9.79% and has been less than 10% for three consecutive days.
A total of 20.27 crore Vaccine Doses have been administered so far under Nationwide Vaccination Drive. After the USA, India is the 2nd country to achieve the 20 crore vaccination doses landmark.
In the last 24 hours, 21.57 lakh tests were conducted. India has tested 33,69,69,352 samples for Covid-19 until 26 May, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
The new fatalities in the same duration, however, have gone down as 3,847 more people succumbed to the disease. The number stood at 4,157 on Wednesday.
The cumulative death toll in the country now stands at 3,15,235.
