Among such charity-minded stars, the latest additions are Katrina Kaif, Gul Panag, Deepika Padukone, Preity Zinta and Mugdha Godse. There is a big fat bunch of celebrities in B-town, who lend a helping hand to various foundations, but prefer keeping a low profile. Be it Aamir or Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar or SRK, Bipasa Basu or Shilpa Shetty, it is evident that these celebs have a heart that cries when they see the needy, the orphans, and the mentally challenged.

Katrina’s gift to the orphans
The gorgeous Katrina Kaif wants to turn her mother’s dream in to reality by setting up a nursery school for the orphans. She says, “My mother always thought basic education was essential for all kids, and today when I stand tall, I wish to get that smile on her face, as that would in turn make me happy. I wish to see the literacy rate in India go higher and I will do all I can to make a difference in the lives of people who have no one to support them.”
Gul lends a hand
The woman of substance Gul Panag has been a part of “Shraddha Charitable Trust,” an organization that rehabilitates young autistic adults for a while now. She runs the Mumbai Marathon to support this institution. On being asked about her contribution towards charity, she discloses, “Sometimes it gets too confusing to detect the genuineness of a trust or an organization, especially when a celebrity is approached for monetary help. However, I do my bit to help them out. I am also associated to “Green Commando,” where all one needs to do is little things like switching off lights when not needed, avoid plastic, recycle etc., which does not mean going green, but taking a step towards saving our planet from global warming.”
Deepika’s great service
Deepika Padukone is ready with an action plan as she is looking at helping underprivileged and needy sportsmen of the country. She confesses, “I believe there is a lot of hidden talent in our country, which needs to be brought out in the public. So many sportsmen lag behind because they don’t get the basic amenities when needed. I am getting my hands on to something like this only because it would give me satisfaction at the end of the day.”
Voice of the voiceless: Preity Zinta
Dimpled cheek Priety Zinta has a subtle side too. After having adopted 30-plus under-privileged girls from Rishikesh, she has recently joined hands with UNAIDS. If talks are to be believed, she has agreed on giving 25 percent of profits made from her IPL team King XI Punjab towards charity for this AIDS organization. “I want to be able to talk to the world on behalf of people who are unable to communicate what they need. Being a public figure, it is easier to change the hearts and minds of people. I will be the voice of the voiceless” said the cute lass.
Mugdha’s catwalk for the deaf
New girl on the block Mugdha Godse is not far behind. Her social work philosophy is simple. She says, “Being paid to walk the ramp for various designers is a profession, but walking the ramp for a noble cause gives you immense happiness. “Deeds” is one such institute I would try to be associated with as long as I can as it caters to people who are deaf and need aid on hearing.”

Aamir Khan charity emphathises more on the disabled. He feels that the infrastructure of education system in the country should be changed to provide proper facility to the physically-challenged people. So that they face lesser complexity to access themselves for education.
Salman Khan’s generosity recently made news when he donated over 100 cycles to village kids in Wai as reported earlier. Apart from that, the actor also organized an eye camp for senior citizens suffering from cataract. He personally supervised the entire operation and made sure they got proper post-treatment care. Those with cataract were taken to Pune for operation.
Sridevi does charity through her paintings. Recently, Christie’s, one of the world’s biggest auction houses, for charity. sold her painting for $50,000.
