Bodo girls asked to shun jeans

GUWAHATI: A poster campaign asking Bodo girls not to wear jeans has raised eyebrows of people in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC)areas of Assam.
The posters, allegedly issued by the influential All Bodo Students’ Union (Absu), asked Bodo girls to wear ‘dokhona’, their traditional attire, instead of jeans.
However, the central leadership of Absu said the campaign doesn’t have its approval.
Absu president Pramod Boro told TOI that an organizational inquiry have been instituted. “I don’t buy the idea of banning jeans for Bodo girls. Initial probe reveled that some members of Absu’s Subankata unit hanged the posters in certain pockets. But it’s not the official proclamation of the central committee,” said Boro.
