Pallekele: Asad Shafiq and Hafeez come good; Ervine scores half-century for Zimbabwe.
The rains stayed out long enough for Pakistan to pick up two points, defeating Zimbabwe convincingly by seven wickets in an ICC World Cup Group ‘A’ match here on March 14.
Mohammad Hafeez (49) and Asad Shafiq (78 not out) guided Pakistan to safety in a 82-run partnership. Shahid Afridi promoted himself to complete the formalities but his five-minute stay revealed that he forgot to pack his batting form when he left his home in Peshawar. Younus Khan joined Shafiq and put on a 54-run partnership to complete the formalities.
Earlier, Zimbabwe scored 151 in 39.4 overs and the Duckworth-Lewis calculation set Pakistan 164 in 34.1 overs, even as clouds continued to threaten Pakistan’s chase.
Scoreboard: Zimbabwe: Total (for seven wkts in 39.4 overs): 151; Pakistan: Total (in three wkts. in 34.1 overs): 164.
