2,572 people held in Gujarat for violating lockdown

Gandhinagar, March 31 (IANS) The Gujarat Police claimed to have arrested over 300 people for violation of lockdown norms, using the drone technology. In total 2,572 people have been arrested and 6,884 vehicles seized.
“After receiving complaints of violation of lockdown provisions, we deployed drones to find that out and have filed 110 cases for violation and arrested 307 people for the breach. On the basis of CCTV footage, charges have been framed against 31 people.
“The Police is monitoring social media and have filed three cases of spreading fake messages,” said Shivanand Jha, Director General of Police (DGP).
The police had filed charges against 1,034 people for violation of CrPC 144, and against 357 others for violation of isolation norms, he said.
Urging public cooperation, he said the people should be sensitive. On health personnel being harassed by landlords, he said, “We won’t tolerate that and action will be taken against them.” He also warned profiteers and factory owners who were sending away their workers.
Earlier, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said migrant labourers who didn’t have ration cards would also be provided grain from April 4 under the ‘Anna Bhram’ scheme. The district administration have prepared a list of all such labourers.
He said ‘Shibir Shades’ would be set up across the state to shelter and feed them. Rs 40 crore has been allocated from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) fund for it.
Meanwhile, three more Covid-19 cases were detected in Gujarat on Tuesday, taking the tally to 73. Five Covid-19 patients have been discharged from hospitals.
“All of the new cases were due to local infection. A man, 55, from Ahmedabad and a woman, 32, from Gandhinagar have been admitted to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Hospital, Ahmedabad. The third case — a man, 28 — is from Rajkot and admitted to Christ Hospital,” said Jayanti Ravi, Principal Secretary (Health and family welfare).
The highest number of cases in Gujarat is in Ahmedabad (24), followed by Rajkot and Gandhinagar (10 each), Surat and Vadodara (9 each), Gir-Somnath (2) and one each in Porbandar, Mahesana and Kutch.
Of the 73 cases, 32 had a foreign travel and two inter-state travel histories and 37 cases of local infection.
Six deaths have been reported in Gujarat.
